  • Macroinfusions use a larger volume of chemicals and water to treat a larger part of the tree (or the whole tree). This technique involves infusing relatively large amounts of fluid containing the active ingredients, diluted with water in most instances (as much as 50 gallons in very large trees).
  • Microinjections take a different approach. This technique punches very small holes through the bark. One advantage to doing microinjections is that you'll use fewer chemicals and do less damage to your tree. At each injection point, roughly 1 to 10 milliliters of concentrated active ingredient is injected just under the bark.

Another difference between these two methods is where the injections occur. Macroinfusions require drilling and injecting in the tree trunk. But they're not recommended.
